Our Christmas Special - The Struggle Series #6
Well *I* thought we were done but we got handed a very nice day for Christmas Eve and we happened to be free. So what do we do? Want to go off road and play of course!
We visit our favorite training grounds: Hodges Village Dam; and attempt to do some snow covered trails to see what it's like.
I also finally received my Skydio 2 drone to try out for our shenanigans next year when we can get back in the trails. I ordered this thing early in the summer or late spring and I finally got it now.. when it's cold and there's nothing to drone.
Basically:
-Me getting pushed like a child learning to ride a bike
-Slip and slide
-Bill trying to pick up an actual turd
-Going sledding on my bike
-Drone shots
-Wash off salt
See ya soon!

Channel Update - December 2020

Channel Update Dec 2020 - Season's over for us now. Life, rona, and work got in the way since the last ride. See ya next year! I have a little baby boy on the way. Working on maintenance for my R1200GSA to set it back right again for next year. Stripped down my old 1978 Peugeot 103 moped to fix up to putt around sometimes. Bought a 1994 Suzuki Cara (Mazda Autozam AZ-1) to play with.
Rough Single Track, "jumps" and other shenanigans - Hodges Village Dam - The Struggle Series #5

Didn't fall over the entire time! At least for me on the R1200GS A just only got stuck a few times. Went into the harder spots, yea the rocks are a bit chunky there but maybe I'll check it out again. It's always difficult going into new trails as I'm not good enough to go through it new on the fly. It is nice to know what may be coming to mentally prepare for it. We saw the little ramp jumps an...
Single Track on R1200GSes - Hodges Village Dam, Oxford, MA - The Struggle Series #4

First visit to the Hodges Village Dam trails. Mostly single track. The sandy area was interesting. First time in sand, it was kind of fun. Many whoops and some little ramped jumping areas. Pretty fun, would probably come here instead of going to play in the mud in Franklin State Forest. Mud PTSD. Hi Kester! Met a new buddy here on his first time off road and he tagged along. Bill brought his pa...
What We're About

We're a group a friends that go out riding and recently started off roading since it's pandemic time and there's nowhere to do our long trips to. We popped off our 70/30 or 90/10 road tires and got some 50/50 tires and into the trees we went. Aside from some dirt paths to a campsite we've never really been off road. We're learning on the fly through the rather dumb and hard way but that's part ...

Went to check out the NE BDR since we're in Massachusetts. Went to do Section 3, camped around Section 4 then went home. All kinds of shenanigans plagued us along the way and we were able to document some of these for your entertainment. All in all it was a good ride and we would love to try to actually complete all the sections next time as we gain more experience. I messed up on the video, it...
BMW R1200GSA Trail Riding - The Struggle Series #3

3rd time on this trail now, hoped that being familiar with the trail is going to be helpful but surprise! it dried up after all the rain and was strangely different because of no mud. The mud was what kept us going at a slower pace and it seemed easier than this time though it was still fun! Still learning. Still struggling. Will be back for more and getting better each time. Stay tuned! Carnag...

Went for round two of learning after the first lessons. Definitely improved but still more to work on! Started at F Gilbert Hills in Foxborough, MA then decided it was too hard for us and popped back to Franklin State Forest in Franklin, MA for round two. Definitely helps to be familiar with the trails to know what's coming.
Getting beat up on BMW R1200GSes in Franklin State Forest, MA - The Struggle Series #1

Finally got to do the type of trails we have been watching others do on youtube. Went in mildly unprepared and the forest whooped our asses. Super tired but still tons of fun! It was supposed to be "easy" but it was our first time. Next time we come back hopefully we can conquer it and actually call it easy.
Practicing light off roading on R1200GSes with fails

Practicing on the easy stuff before going into some state forest trails. Brought a R1200GSA with a R1200GS, Grom and a WS250. Our buddy with the BMW C650 had to bail after he realized it was all going to be a bad time and didn't want to damage his ride.
How to: Replace a damaged spoke from a R1200GSA wheel.

Found a bent spoke after changing tires. Ordered up a new one from MAX BMW Part number: 1/36318540815 Front Spoke for $4.55 and two other screws I lost. Even got a free bag of M&Ms, nice touch with the candy. Thanks! Pretty simple to do, can be done in about 10 mins.

After checking it out the prior week came back to play again with some others. Just the stock tires on the R1200GS and F800GS and worn out TKC70s on my R1200GSA. My windshield almost fell off since I haven't checked the screws in about 25k miles. (Never thought of doing it before but will put loctite on the new ones) Lost the left screw and had to zip tie it. Went down some trails and decided to whip out the drone to see how well the new Active Track 2.0 works on the DJI Mavic 2 Pro. Worked pretty well up until that one tree branch came outta nowhere. I wonder why it didn't see it because it was able to see some other smaller branches.

      We're a bunch of fools that are still around. Haven't gotten to do much of this since one of us moved further away and I had a kid. Two of us recently went to check out Wrentham State Park to check those trails out. What bike do you have? Since I didn't get to play on my bike as much now I started a new channel doing stuff with my little car channel/instagram @anythingwheeled You can either contact me through Instagram or my email ray@anythingwheeled.com to do further contact info like phone to plan for a day or something.

    It looks like you are enjoying the ride! Just friendly advice form an old timer.. You have the wrong tires for this trail- the slipping is fun until you side/over, need rescue and your rear pillion has a broken leg... Consider a 70/30 tire at as minimum for the Trans Mass. I bought Nice condition used GS rims online and a good set of 50/50 is what I have - a 20 minute change and i have different sneakers for a different game. Like Turf vs Grass . ENJOY!!!

      It's been a while since I got to go out for a ride. We swapped our tires after this trip. I had the Continental one at the time that was marketed as a 70street/30offroad I think the TKC70 but now I have the Michelin Anakee wilds now since this got us hooked to do stuff off road. Our videos after this are us learning to off road the hard way. Check them out!

      This was one of our first times going off road ever. Learning on the big ol GS is much harder. It's difficult when you hold yourself back because you're afraid to crash/fall. We got a lot better at it later on though.

    That motorcycle is too big for the guy who kept falling over. He was on his tip toes a few times when trying to stand with the bike under him. Also I wonder how the Kymco People GTi 300 would do with its larger wheels vs the downtown

    • @ADVPosers
      @ADVPosers 2 роки тому

      Larger wheels would definitely help. The scooter lower fairings were getting wacked a lot by protruding rocks. The GS is mine, it was one of our first few times going off road so it was hard for me to get used to it. As we continued to do this in videos afterwards we all improved ourselves and there was less falling but still tons of fun.

    Seemed to bent a spoke on my gs changing a tire, when replacing a spoke like this can there be issues with the wheel not staying true?

    • @ADVPosers
      @ADVPosers 3 роки тому

      You can spin the wheel and eyeball whether or not the wheel isn't true. It'll wobble instead of smoothly spinning. If you're too rough changing the tire you can also bend the lip of the wheel. Not common but I've heard of that before. Here I was not careful and pried the tire iron into the spoke and dinged it. Luckily for me that's all I messed up. Don't over tighten the spoke and it should be fine since it's only one. Say you bent like 6 spokes then it comes into question whether you need to check for trueness.

    • @2525tyler
      @2525tyler 3 роки тому

      @@ADVPosers I appreciate the reply. This was from using a rabaconda tire changer. Put some pressure on the spokes when breaking bead and can only tell that one bent. Wheel is fine. Will try replacing the single spoke and give this a try. Thanks.
